Your Stories

It's all about the sharing - giving and paying it forward. I met Bev May and her daughter Dee Miller in 2006 through The Power of Women, a women's networking group. I was at an all time low, having just been downsized again and having to move back to Toronto. I knew I needed a place to go to practice positivity - and Wow, I found it! A lot of women's groups can be exclusive and cliquish - not this one. I was able to get back in the game, find my confidence again through POWE.

Bev is a role model for helping people to be and stay included. Her small but powerful welcoming and supporting gestures helped me to feel at home, included and respected. Dee is a dedicated hard working volunteer who gives of herself beyond anything that's expected.

Bev and I have become good friends, sharing good times. good laughs and all the ups and downs of life. Rare indeed.  Bev gave me the Hummingbird pin, she's just like that - you admire something - she hands it to you! So, when Mary admired my Hummingbird pin, my first and only instinct was to take it off my lapel and hand it to her. The look on her face was priceless!  You see, for me it's all about paying back in kind what others have done for me, I knew that the energy in that pin was an energy of giving that needed to be set free.

No one achieves success alone, there are always people around us who are ready and willing to help, all we need to do is be open to the opportunity. I have been so fortunate to have made friends like Bev and Mary, who I know are part of my cheer leading team.

I invite you to 'Fly it Forward' -share your Hummingbird and your story, perhaps you will inspire someone, perhaps you will give joy to a person who has survived cancer, perhaps you will make a new friend who can help you in your journey through life.

Fly it Forward!

Irene
